My kitteh is a Coon. He gets combed daily and doesn’t really have a problem. Like the vet said. Prevention is key. I did however cut a mat in half recently by his back leg. You don’t need to cut the whole thing off. Cut it in half and comb it out, and he’ll be right as rain.

i just cut it with siccors, but i cut it out layer by layer, it takes like about 5 mins to cut out 1 patch of matted fur haha

Just recently i was cutting mats out my cats fur while he was sleeping, i was so scared and nervous because i didn’t want my cat to jump up and attack me, but now after watching this. I’ll be sure to buy a cat brush that’s specifically for getting the mats out my cats fur. whew! luckily I didn’t get attacked when my cat woke up.

Good video and series of videos. One good way to help limit URI’s in shelters is to keep the cats as stress free as possible. Use the same (clean) cage for one cat at all times, with a clean box inside with a cozy towel they can cuddle in and feel secure. Keep cat cages AWAY from dog cages, dog runs, drafty entrance doors.
