Take Your Dog on a Fun Vacation

Taking a vacation with your dog can be an awesome experience. There are many places that accept dogs now. Your dog is part of the family so why shouldn’t he get to go on a vacation? There are Bed and Breakfasts, hotels and resorts that now accept well mannered dogs. If you prefer to go camping there are many campgrounds that will allow you to have your dog. When you make your reservations be sure to double check that where you intend to stay will accept your dog.

When you travel with your dog there are several things you should do. Most dogs love to ride in the car. You may want to get a carrier for your dog to keep him extra secure and safe. You need to take water and a plastic water bowl. You must be prepared to make extra stops for your dog. Be sure to take his dog food and treats.

Be sure to keep your dog on a leash at all times. When traveling do not let your dog put his head out the window. Never leave your dog in the car when it is hot or cold.

Be sure to take your dog’s bed or blanket so he will feel comfortable. Also take a couple of his toys. Take your dogs brush or comb. Your dog may be on vacation but he still needs to be groomed. If your dog takes medication be sure to take enough to last for the time you will be gone.

A great place for you and your dog to go on a vacation would be Lake Tahoe’s Camp Winnaribbun. Camp Winnaribbun is 33 acres of pine forest. It has a private beach where you can go with your dog.

Camp Winnaribbun has professionals that conduct the camp activities. There guided tours for you and your dog so you can explore the beautiful Tahoe wilderness. You can take in the beauty of Lake Tahoe. The cuisine is great at the camp.

Camp Winnaribbun is within walking distance of the casinos on the south shore. You can golf at the Edgewood Golf Course which is adjacent to the camp.

There are dormitory style rustic log cabins for you and your dog to stay in. The cabins have bunk style beds and electricity. The bath and toilet facilities are central coed. You have to bring your own bedding, towels, coolers and personal items. You must provide xpens or crates for your dog. You can stay off site if you wish. Meals, crafts and general activities are held in and around the dining hall.

Camp Winnaribbun is built on 33 acres of fenced, locked, private forest and beach front property. There are areas where your dog can explore and play. The private beach and lake are available for swimming, canoeing and fun times for your dog. There are evening campfire programs around the large fire pit.

You will enjoy home cooked cuisine in the camps dining hall. Some campers also enjoy some evening meals at local restaurants.

Your dog care needs:

The dog in your life needs to have a collar and ID tag with current information on it so that if lost he/she can be returned to you. Your dog can be identified as your dog if the occasion arises that you need to prove that he/she belongs to you. Keep current pictures of your dog along with vet papers from visits to also prove the dog is your dog.

Make sure that you know and follow all local dog licensing and vaccinating rules for where you live. These local rules can be found by contacting the local animal shelter or humane society. You can also find out where to obtain ID tags and license tags for your dog as well as a list of local vets that can give your dog medical care and vaccinations.

Always make sure that when your dog is off your property that the dog is on a leash. This is for the protection of your dog and for the protection of those who meet your dog. A leash allows you the best opportunity for controlling your dog in situations that may arise when you are off your property.

Your dog needs proper shelter whether a inside dog or an outside dog. Dogs should never be left outside for extended periods of time without human supervision. Dogs crave and need to have human interaction. They should spend most of the time with the humans in the family and not alone outside.

Your dog needs to have regular vet care. Ask your local dog shelter, humane society, neighbor or friend for vet recommendations.

A dog that has been spayed or neutered is healthier and has fewer behavior problems (biting, running away). Spaying and neutering also reduces pet overpopulation, which is a problem in most communities.

Your dog needs to have daily fresh food and fresh water. Your vet can advise you on the proper nutrition for your dog’s age and breed.

A dog and you can benefit from dog training classes in your community. Make sure that they are positive training classes. Dog-training classes not only help you to have a better-behaved dog, but aides in bonding with a new dog or puppy.

Dogs need daily exercise and some breeds need specific exercise amounts to keep them healthy.

Understanding what you dog needs in the way of physical and emotional support will not only help the dog but will foster a closer bond between you and your beloved dog.

When you take the time to understand what care your dog needs, you are doing all you can to help your dog live a long and healthy life. Your dog will not only be a better dog when it receives the quality care it needs and deserves but it will have the ability to be a better dog companion for many more years to you and to your other family members.
