Introduction to Dog Crate Training with Common Practice

Article by Jack Up

The CRATE Training has become a common practice, many dog owners. While the common belief that dogs, a natural “den instinct” is not, however, they benefit from a unique and safe space to call their own. Dog crates allow the owner of one of their dogs for an environment that is fast becoming a familiar and reassuring to your dog. They allow dogs accustomed sight of their masters, and teaches them to hold their bladders bathroom break. Tara is also very desirable to carry dogs, cars. CRATE training is quite long, involved process, and a full explanation is outside the scope of this article. Here we just provide the basic guide to choosing a dog crate and how to begin crate training process.

When buying your first dog crate, your first point size. Dog crate should be big enough dog to stand, turn around, and otherwise move around easily. Unless you want to buy a few boxes throughout your dog’s life, you need to buy the one that fits their adult size, even if you get a puppy dog. Tricks of the fact that you do not want the dog has more freedom than they actually need, at least not once it has developed the puppy stage. However, setting up feeders to reduce the area of the cage is not difficult, therefore, mistaken for a high rather than low side.

Crate various designs, different quality. The most common are either welded mesh “cages” of metallic grid sides, a removable bottom tray for easy cleaning or rigid plastic containers, usually clips that attach the upper half of the network at the bottom. Both are sturdy and durable design, but also bulky and difficult to move. When the metal boxes can be dismantled or collapsed, but even they tend to be less convenient than a third type: a soft-sided dog crates, made of nylon or other fabric stretched over a metal frame. These soft dog crates are the easiest and more portable from them, and they tend to be more attractive. Unfortunately, these types of tissue do not have a good puppy or dog crate trying to escape gnawings. If your puppy or dog is already crate-trained dog to maintain a soft box later in life.

If you have your own house, crate, the dog can add a new bedroom. The most important thing to remember is to make sure that all associations are doing with the dog crate to be nice. Do not force the dog to the crate right away, but it treats or toys to lure. Even when the dog has entered the cage, you should seal it immediately. Wait until the dog seems comfortable crate to the area of safe refuge and a prison. Also, do not scream, hit, or other negative conditioning techniques trying to teach your dog. Dogs, like people, there will always be more effectively respond to positive reinforcement. You also have to be as consistent as possible, while maintaining their own rules. If your dog whine or bark, but the crate, you have to yell over the cage or a pound, than to allow a former dog just to scare and confuse the dog, while the latter rewards their bad behavior. Be firm but loving at all times.

Maintaining a positive and consistent training, your dog will soon come to understand the dog box, which is a comfortable private space to call their own. Good quality crate should take over your dog’s life, to help keep your passengers safe and warm and safe through many years of happiness.

When it comes to a convenient place to call home your dog nothing beats Soft Dog Crate. They are just as rugged and reliable traditional metal and plastic crates. Soft Dog Crates additional benefit of better ventilation, greater visibility and Soft Dog Crates are very portable. When it comes to your dog’s Product nothing beats a soft dog crate.

Hot Tips On Dog Training

Article by David Amos

INTRODUCTION

Dog training is one of the most important things you can do for your pet. It will greatly improve the relationship between you and your dog.

Dog training will give you a means of communicating with your dog. The most obvious way it can help with communication is by teaching your dog to respond to commands. Next time you come across your dog ripping apart your favorite pair of slippers, you will be able to use simple oral commands to stop the destruction. Dog training will also improve communication by allowing your dog to find its place within your household social hierarchy. By teaching your dog to sit and give you its paw, you are telling the dog that you are in charge. When your dog obeys your commend, it is recognizing your position.

Dog training can also protect your dog. A dog that has been properly trained won’t go chasing after a bouncing ball into traffic. A dog that has been properly trained won’t take a nip at other dogs or pedestrians when you are out for walks. A dog that has gone through dog training will be a confident dog. You will also be able to give it more freedom to do things like run off the leash when you know it will return on your command.

Finally, dog training can be a fun activity for you and your dog to do together, a time for you to focus all your attention on your dog. It need not be a chore, and it should never resemble an extended punishment.

DOG TRAINING BASICS

The most important concept in dog training is the reward. Rewarding your dog with treats is the fastest and most pleasant way for your dog to learn new commands. While punishing your dog has its place in most dog training regimes, it should be used sparingly. If all your dog ever receives is punishments or reprimands, your dog will quickly learn to ignore or avoid you. This will make it extremely hard to properly train your dog.

WHEN TO START DOG TRAINING

Dog training should start as early as possible. While you may not see immediate benefits, and many doubt puppy can actually be trained, it will at the very least set the stage for successful dog training later in life. The methods you use to train your dog will seem familiar and a part of its daily routine. This is not to say that you can never teach an old dog new tricks. Just be prepared to put more effort into it than you would with a younger dog, and to always be patient.

FINDING A DOG TRAINER

While there are many resources available for you to train your dog on your own, the easiest way is to use a dog trainer. You should spend a lot of time picking a dog trainer, however, as bad training techniques could be very damaging to your dog.

Anyone can call himself or herself a dog trainer. It is therefore important to only use a dog trainer that has been glowingly recommended by someone with well-trained dogs, or by a reputable organization such as the ASPCA or other humane societies. And before spending any money, ensure that the dog trainer uses methods you are comfortable with. Visit the facility and see a dog training session in action. If you see any signs of cruelty or hostility by the instructor towards the dogs, find someone else.

Article by Andrea Waggener

Aggressive dog behavior can not only take the fun out of having a dog, it can be dangerous too. The last thing you want to see in your beloved canine is aggressive dog behavior.

As soon as most dog owners see aggressive dog behavior, they try and do something about it, of course. Unfortunately, what these owners do is yell at their dogs or hit their dogs to try and get control of the canine aggression.

With aggressive dogs, it’s easy to make mistakes that can lead to big problems. To make sure you don’t make these mistakes, avoid these aggressive dog behavior training no-nos:

1. The first mistake people make with aggressive dogs is keeping the dogs penned up. Not exercising an aggressive dog is a big no-no!

A bored dog is far more likely to be an aggressive dog. Most dogs have a lot of pent-up energy. They’re simply designed to be active. When you don’t allow your dog to be as active as he or she wants to be, this can lead to problems.

The best way to avoid dog aggression is to work off that pent-up energy. Take your dog on daily, long walks. Play fetch with your dog. The more you interact with an aggressive dog in a playful, fun way, the less aggression you’ll see.

2. Another big aggressive dog behavior mistake is hitting the dog. Training aggressive dog techniques require touch, but not hitting! You never want to hit any dog, but certainly not an aggressive dog. Violence will simply encourage aggressive behavior.

To correct an aggressive canine, pull at the scruff of the neck or gently nudge the dog. A firm voice and a specific gesture that telegraphs your displeasure will work too.

Your goal in correcting an aggressive dog is to surprise and get across your message. You’re not trying to hurt or punish the dog.

3. Being a wimp is a big aggressive dog training no-no. Dog training aggressive behavior out of your dog requires you to be the boss! A wimp isn’t going to be affective at dog training aggressive behavior out of a dog.

Dogs need guidance. They need a leader. Dog parenting doesn’t simply mean care. It means leadership too.

To establish leadership with an aggressive dog, be sure you’re the one in control. Enter a room first unless you give your dog the okay to go ahead of you. Establish that you’re head honcho.

4. Dealing with repeated dog biting yourself is a big mistake. Aggressive dog training for dog biting requires the pros. If your dog bites, you need aggressive dog training from a professional dog trainer. Don’t try and deal with a biting dog yourself. The consequences are too dire. If the above tips don’t help control aggressive dog behavior, get some help.

Your dog deserves to be well-socialized so he or she can have a happy life. Take steps now to deal with aggressive dog behavior.

Article by Rena Murray

Similar to other human endeavors, the success of dog training and dog behavior modification efforts involving both a dog trainer and a dog owner is dependent upon acceptance of responsibility and good communication. Here are some dog training tips and rules of the road for such situations.

To start, Dog Trainer, you must always remember to ask as many thoughtful and pointed questions of the owner as possible. This is an absolute necessity if the dog trainer is to have a good understanding of the animal before beginning the first dog training session, to start on the right foot. You never have a second chance to make a first impression in the dog world.

Dog Owner, you have a responsibility to be detailed on both the good and the bad in your pet. Only then can the dog trainer – dog behaviorist diagnose the problem fully and take the best remedial steps. You must also speak out your full expectations so they can be accomplished.

Some areas you should cover and amplify include:

1- Historical information about your dog — Age, how old he was when adopted, where you got him, etc.

2- The dog behavior problem — Full description, how it manifests, under what circumstances, and how often.

3- What happened the first time? — What did the dog do first, how did you handle it at that moment and right afterward, how did the dog respond, how old was the dog, other factors, and how much has the behavior increased since then?

4- What have you done about it since then? — Also, what have other family members done about it, what are you doing now, how has the dog reacted each time, etc.?

5- Information about your dog’s environment and exposures – e.g., your home, yard, doggie door and yard freedom or always out on a leash, neighborhood, parks, other pets, other family members and ages, kennel trained, etc.

6- You dog’s daily exercise — e.g., how often, when, how far, is it “free time” or focused and disciplined (mental challenge), etc.?

7- Any other things you do not like about your dog?

Expose everything pertinent to the pet and circumstances that you can think of. Don’t forget allergies and health issues that might have an effect.

Dog Trainer, point out issues right away, explaining dog behavior problems to the Owner. For example, if the dog displays dog dominance behavior such as claiming something, the Owner needs to be made aware of what is really going on. This is not just some cute little annoyance, but the seed of a major dog behavior problem!

Dog Trainer, do not in any way intimidate the Dog Owner or make him feel foolish. Be understanding. Recognize that he called on you because he realizes and acknowledges the need for your experience. Commend him, for that takes courage.

Dog Owner, never lie to a dog trainer if your dog has certain tendencies. Especially if your dog is aggressive or fearful, the trainer needs to know the tendency of his reactions. Otherwise, there may be a nasty dog bite, and the results you seek may be impeded.

Dog Owner, listen to the dog trainer. Do not become surly or sarcastic with one who is trying to help. Do not waste the trainer’s time if you are not going to follow her directions and be consistent. Do not try to blame the trainer if you are not consistent.

Dog Trainer, do not tell the Dog Owner: “People need training, not dogs.” It is called DOG TRAINING for a reason!

Dog Trainer, realize that people need to be instructed in how to read dog body language, to become the leader of the pack, and how to follow through with your instructions… How to train a dog! People need encouragement, not criticism. Sometimes, the problem is the DOG!

Dog Trainer, hear the Dog Owner out and listen to all he says about the dog. Eat every word, and draw out every piece of information you may need. Remember, you need to feed the Dog Owner if he is stuck. You need to be a skilled interviewer, to draw out all you need to know about the dog and the circumstances.

Keeping these thoughts in mind makes it easier for both the Dog Trainer and the Dog Owner. It is no more fun for a Dog Trainer than a Dog Owner to deal with someone who is full of himself… That is counterproductive. Keep you eye on your goal — dog behavior modification and dog training.

Article by Jake Tylor:

True protection dogs are FRIENDLY to people when their owner has no reason to feel threatened. The instant anyone does something threatening the dog changes into a guard dog attitude. The dog will wait for the owner’s command and guidance – either to continue with the attitude, attack or quit. Dogs that are constantly suspicious of strangers or anyone except those he is familiar with are operating on fear. The dog that feels that everything is something to be afraid of and aggressive to is NOT a good guard dog prospect! Most dogs who have a potential to be a good guard dog are easy-going, non-reactive dogs. Dogs who are fearful will even bite the “good guy”! Dogs who are to be guard dogs need to be highly and positively socialized. They need to meet and greet MANY people and to NOT be encouraged to growl, but rather told to stop it. This should be done during the window of prime socialization between the ages of 6 and 16 weeks old. NEVER reinforce (pet, stroke, soothing talk, feed) a dog for inappropriate behavior, and never encourage the dog to be fearful (“It’s OK” – NOT!). A fearful dog is essentially a loaded gun; a dog who will bite out of fear (called a “fear-biter”). Dogs need to be taught to be confident without being fearful.

Raising a dog to be a protection or guard dog is not unlike raising any canine member of your household. The exact same things need to happen in a potential guard dog’s life that should happen in a dog intended to be a family pet – heavy, positive and frequent socialization. In fact, a dog who responds to a stranger at the door with barking does not need to be a trained guard dog. Most dogs will bark at the door. A dog must have a well-rounded view of life and be able to recover behaviorally from every new experience before he even moves into the finer points of guard dog training.I have never trained a dog to be a guard dog, but I am well familiar with the overall temperament of a dog that will do well to make it as a guard dog. If I were to want to train a dog to be a guard dog, I would NOT do it alone! I would seek out and train with people who have vast experience in training dogs in this capacity (in another life, I would have loved to do this!).I would encourage anyone looking to own a dog to be protective to contact someone locally to help you in the choice and training of a dog for this line of work – I would not undertake this alone. A guard dog is essentially a loaded gun; if you don’t have control of that gun, you WILL have problems.

Here is a very brief list of things found in a good guard dog:

* Heavy play drive (tennis ball or tug-toy driven)

* High energy – most working dogs will drive you crazy with their activity level and their need for both physical and mental exercise!

* Able to quit on command (after taught, of course!)

* Heavy work ethic; these dogs realize they do not work alone, and they are a team with their handler

* Strong attention to their owner/handler

* Ability to focus

* Able to recover from “insult”; (they don’t fall apart under pressure)

* Wait for the owner/handler to make the decision to act (they do not work on their own)

* After a long time (years, maybe!) and plenty of experience and training, a good working dog will be able to decide for himself if he is needed

* Able to adapt to new environments, surfaces, weather

* Not reactive or impulsive

* A good, sound working dog is able to pass the Temperament Test given through the American Temperament Test Society.

* A good, sound working dog should also be able to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizenship Test.

Article by Jeremy Lawrence

Dog training is more than just telling your dog to stop doing what he’s doing, it is the process of teaching a dog to exhibit certain desired dog behavior in specific circumstances. Proper dog training is not a “quick fix” – it is an ongoing, life-long process. It is especially important when adopting an adult dog, since new owners generally have no knowledge of the dog behavior history. Additionally, successful dog training means your dog is less likely to end up a lost pet. Dog training is easy, but fixing problems born from nervousness is very hard.

Dog training is similar to raising children but more difficult for people to understand because we must communicate with the dog from a canine point of view. This requires that we have an understanding of how dogs think and perceive their world. It is an ongoing process that occurs during specified training sessions and through the rest of every dog’s day. The lessons taught during dog training times should be reinforced at all times. Dog training is a process that may involve treats, but too many of these treats can be a bad idea for your dog’s waistline. Use small treats and wean your dog off treats as they understand the different commands.

Dog Crate Training

One method of training a dog is by using a crate. Dog crate training is not always easy and you have to do it consistently otherwise it will not work the way you would like it. You may also need an air filled dog bed and a transport dog crates as well. Dog crate training is not cruel. I repeat: Crate training is not cruel. It is a method of training recognized and recommended by veterinarians, trainers and breeders, that takes advantage of a dogs natural instinct to find place of its own.

This is especially good for potty training a dog. Dog crate training is based around the premises that most dogs will not eliminate where they sleep or rest, provided that they are given options to release elsewhere. Therefore, owners will temporarily confine their pet to a cage of some sorts, in order to change negative behaviors. Dog crate training is based around the premises that most dogs will not eliminate where they sleep or rest, provided that they are given options to release elsewhere. Therefore, owners will temporarily confine their pet to a cage of some sorts, in order to change negative behaviors. Dog crate training is good for a variety of training problems such as potty training, chewing and anxiety. The premise behind crate training is to keep your dog in its’ crate whenever you are unable to supervise its’ activities.

Dog crate training is generally easier with a puppy as they have no bad experiences to recall when you are enticing them into the crate. Adult dogs can be trickier, especially rescue dogs as you may not possess a lot of knowledge pertaining to the dog ‘s history.

Dog Obedience Training

Dog obedience training is more than just training your dog, it involves teaching the dog owner too. Going through dog obedience training is something every dog owner should do. it isn’t just about showing off the latest pet tricks to your friends. Dog obedience training teaches your dog how to think and problem solve. Dog obedience training is in general, an education to cultivate dogs to become well-disposed. Normally, in the process of educating or training the dogs their tendency for aggressiveness and over reaction may be diminished to the least possible level.

Dog obedience training is the single most important gift you can teach your dog. When a dog has been trained dog obedience, he will be a well rounded obedient dog. Dog owners must train a dog obedience the moment the dog, or puppy arrive in the home. You must not expect your dog to know what dog obedience is. You are the leader. Leaders must show the dog what is acceptable behavior.

Dog obedience will be easy. As long as dog owners reward good behavior with treats. Dog owners will be most successful when using treats as a reward.

Dog obedience training must consist of simple commands. Sit, Stay, Down, Come, and Heel. There are many more commands that you can train a dog to do. These are the most important for your dog to know first. Train a dog in small increment of time. Dog owners will be more successful with dog obedience training if they start with 10 minutes of training, a couple times a day.

My clients complain of dogs jumping on them and their quests. I ask them if the dog was trained to Sit, and Stay? Dog owners always say yes. If a dog is still jumping, then dog owners need to go back to basics. Train the dog or puppy obedience as if it never knew the command. Practice makes perfect. Use treats and positive praise when they are successful.

If your dog is jumping you might be the problem. Some dog owners come home from work and walk through the door. Dog owners are so happy to see their dog. Owners will lavish the dog with affection, and hug the dog. This behavior causes the dog to become over excited and jump on the owners. Dog owners unconsciously teach the dog to jump when they arrive home. This is a negative pattern that must be stopped.

You can still love and show affection to your dog. Just make sure that the dog is sitting patiently before showing affection. By doing this you teach your dog obedience. The dog will realize if I sit and stay calm my owner will give me positive praise.

Remember that yelling or hitting a dog will only teach your dog to fear you. If a dog fears you it will not respect or listen to you. It can also make a good dog become aggressive. There is no such thing as a bad dog. Just bad owners.

Article by Jane Mitchell

Dog training videos are created to assist owners and trainers to better train their dogs. With the help of visual aids and a step by step guide, training your dog should be easy. Training dogs in general requires a lot of time, effort and patience. Just like humans, some dogs learn faster than others. Make sure that your program is suitable for your dog. With the help of modern technology, dog training videos are also available through the internet. Some trainers or owners try to download these videos so that they can effectively train their dogs. Some dog training school offers a dog training video after the whole session so that the owner can do some follow up and recap with their dogs personally. Recap is important so that your dog will constantly remember the trainings.

There are so many kinds of dog training video and that is why it is important for you to determine as to what kind of training your dog needs. Some training might only cover the obedience training, tracking, agility and the likes. Some dog training videos even come with the basic background of dog’s behavior and makers of these kinds of videos believe that learning some basic background on dog’s behavior will help trainers understands the nature of dogs better. Make sure that your dog has fully mastered the old tricks or trainings before you continue teaching your dog some new tricks again. Dog training videos are only created to assist trainers in doing a step by step training. However, the hard work and determination will have to come from the trainer himself. Do not get swayed by the entire offer, stick to your desired programs for your dog. Remember one step at a time. You cannot bombard your dog with tons of lesson each session.

In order for you to properly select as to what dog training video suits your dog best is to determine the strengths and weaknesses of your dog first. This way you can start enhancing your dog’s strengths and follow through his weaknesses. If you happen to own a toy dog, do not expect the dog to be as agile and as aggressive as the guard dogs. Although all dogs may have some common traits, you still have to understand that each breed of dogs have their own uniqueness, strengths and weaknesses. Some dog training video also teaches the appropriate attitude to dog owners when it comes to teaching their dogs. Most of the dog training videos will advice all trainers and owners not to hit their dogs because this will not help at all. Rewards prove to be the most effective means or approach to training dogs. Dogs are like kids. They like being rewarded. Dogs are very sensitive and are keen to their owner’s feelings. If you are a good owner or trainer, the dog will forever stay loyal to you. Another dog training advice on how your dog can enjoy each training session is to include some play time.

DOGS TRAINING

Thursday, July 2, 2009DOGS TRAINNING DOGDomestic dog has been one of the most widely kept working and companion animals in human history. Dogs are valuable to every human settlement. Dogs perform many roles to man, such as hunting, herding, assisting handicapped, and protection. In the world today we have approximately four hundred (400) million dogs.

DOGS TRAINING TIPSDogs training should not be difficult or stressful when we apply our humane, natural and effective methods of training dogs. It could be magical and fulfilling for your dogs and you as well.

In order to establish a natural bond between human and dogs, there is a need for dog training. All dogs have the same ability to learn and same basic level of assimilation and this is something which dog will like you taking advantage of and achieving your dog training aims.

TRAINING DOGS, A REWARDThe most rewarding part of dog ownership is dogs training. Responsible dogs obey their owners either by the commands like “come” or “stay”.

The dog watches and listen to everything the owner does and says, and also learn from him or she. Training dog is a choice, it is either you train or not. You must teach your dog the basics of dog training and also develop or improve your training skills if not the behaviour of your dog may be risky.

You don’t teach your dog undesirable attitude unwittingly, but to have some fundamental dog commands strongly bond in the mind of your dog, which may enable you to gain control of your dog in any condition.

A DOG OWNER DON’T NEED TO BE A PROFESSIONAL DOG TRAINER TO KNOW HIS OR HER DOG IS UNDER CONTROLEven though a dog I without any basic obedience training, the dog still remain a good companion and a friend to the owner. But you never know whether your dog is safe and trusted in all conditions. You could only promote your relationship with your dog by doing some fun dog training at least once in two days.

Dog obedience training is not about giving commands nor compelling dogs to work hard instead of enjoying life, it’s quite the opposite. It is natural and fulfilled to dog you could ever meet, working for human. Training dogs suppose to be fun, bond-building and enriching for both the dog and the owner.

DOG TRAINING TECHNIQUETraining dog can be done in many different ways. It is very important that you understand the behaviour of the dog earlier and choose a dog training method that will suit the character and temperament of the trained breed. Most method work with all dogs, but there are better ways to train a particular dog than the other. In order to speed up your dog’s success at obeying command, we apply clicker training to be the fasted dog training technique and the easiest to learn for novice dog owners.

UNDERSTANDING DOG’S BEHAVIOURA dog owner need to understand canine instincts which apply to all dogs before he or she begins any form of dog training or obedience work. There are some simple aspect of dog behaviour one need to learn before being able to train a dog successfully and easily, not only to cover the basics of dog training with the dog.

DOG TRAINING GUIDEPunishing a dog does not yield a faster result and more so, there will be no trust between the owner and the dog. Although correction is a part of dog training, but there is an enormous difference between dog punishment anddog correction in order to keep the trust.
